JASS
Overview
A patent attribute of the St. Joseph’s College, Trichy is social responsibility and care for the community. Most colleges endeavor to make a positive contribution to the underprivileged communities by supporting a wide range of socio-economic and primarily, educational initiatives. Here is an initiative we’ve called it JASS - Joseph’s Academy of Soft Skills. An initiative which has its origin in the academic year 2008-09 that addresses several human resources issues as plain as Education to Employment and progression. Ensuring employability, activity based learning, individualized learning plan, making study exciting and generating interest, enthusiasm and success are some of our priorities. We launched this programme for I PG students from the academic year 2012-13 till date -as a 4 Credit (IDC) course. For III UG students, a certificate programme on Soft skills was organized from 2014-2016 and as a 2 credit hour from 2016- till date.
JASS’s approach
Study (2007) revealed that there is a wide gap between the expectations of the employers and preparedness of the students. JASS has adapted an approach that fill the gap to some degree a two dimensional approach.
One, preparation of fresh graduates with employability skills which just don’t comprise areas such as successfully cracking interviews in panels or writing resumes but several other programs such as Video shooting of GD Presentation with full Audio and Video systems on stage, classes in Audio Video rooms and online examinations, provide a realistic experience to our students.
Two, involve the corporate in our cycle which ensures clarity pertaining to the gaps they currently face. This approach has assisted us in further refining our programs as per the industry requirements.
